William is a public school English teacher by day. His senior English classes regularly include Tolkien’s short stories and The Hobbit as reading selections. He is a trained medievalist with advanced degrees in Anglo-Saxon history and literature. He is also an Orthodox Christian subdeacon currently enrolled in seminary, the new father of an elf child, and husband to the most Melian-esque woman he has ever met. He is a Benedictine Oblate of Ladyminster Monastery in Colorado.

The following are some of my more autobiographical posts, if you want more specifics than what is said above:
☞ Something Tookish woke up inside him
☞ May it be a Light to you
☞ Above the Shadows of Death

The goals of this blog are threefold:
☞ To work through the ideas and philosophy of Tolkien’s works, especially as they pertain to the Orthodox Christian and Benedictine spiritual life (theological analysis);
☞ To work through the texts William teaches regularly in a more systematic manner, examining themes, characters, language, and beauty (literary analysis);
☞ To get an invite to the Amon Sul podcast (this one is a little joke for all my friends in my parish!).
